ABOUT FAST CAR APPRAISALS
Fred Nelson says himself, “All I know is cars, since the day I bought my first car, a 1928 Pontiac when I was ten years old to today, it’s the only hobby I have!”
He still has his second vehicle, a 1940 Ford Pickup purchased at eleven years old. He used this truck for his newspapers routes; delivering for The Calgary Albertan (today, the Calgary Sun) and The Medicine Hat News.
There are several others in Fred’s eclectic car collection including: a chopped ’57 Chev 150 Wagon (JOESWGN), 1980 Triumph TR7 street rod (NLRTNTV), 1967 Pro Street MGB roadster (BAMBINO), shortened 1957 Chev El Camino (ABRV8TD), 1964 Chevy II Sedan (BAMBI) and a 1967 GMC SWB pickup with blower and NOS.
Through the love of cars came Fred’s love for writing about restoring cars and hot rodding. Best known for his popular weekly features (12 years) in the Calgary Sun: Classic Affair and Classic Corner, he still writes for Quick Times, national hot rod magazines and other car rags.
Since his first accreditation in 1970 (Appraisal Institute of Canada), Fred began his career as a real estate appraiser. In 1980 he joined the Property Appraisal Division of the City of Calgary’s Land Department. He retired in 1997.
In 1999 he started two new companies: Fast Car Appraisals and Fred Nelson Racing.
